"If listeners of Para Gershwin e Jobim did not think there was enough Jobim in that album, rejoice now. With Para Gershwin e Jobim – 2 Kites we get another good dose of Gershwin and plenty more of Jobim. With special appearances by Joana Adnet, Joyce and Paulo Jobim, Para Gershwin e Jobim – 2 Kites was once again masterminded by Mario Adnet (production, arrangements, direction) (...)
From the creative medley in the opening track — “Rhapsody in Blue” and “Samba do Avião” — this album is non-stop thrilling. The Gershwin-flavored introduction of Jobim’s “Surfboard” repeats the surprise of the opening medley. Then Adnet pays tribute to the two masters in “Na Mesma Direção (Para Gershwin e Jobim).” As she had done previously with “Love Is Here to Stay” in Para Gershwin e Jobim, Joana Adnet brings back the innocence of her angelic voice in three solos: “But Not For Me,” “Someone to Watch Over Me” and “Valsa do Porto das Caixas.” The humorous lyrics of “Chansong” are performed here by Jobim’s own son, Paulo Jobim, in a duet with Mario Adnet. The inclusion of this tune here is more than appropriate. Jobim’s brief citation of Gershwin in the melody of “Chansong” is perfect. Another tailor-made re-recording for this album is “Desafinada.” Joyce and Mario Adnet’s interpretation hits high marks again, as does this entire album."
